I WAS able to satisfy a childhood dream this summer (August 2003) by visiting Iceland, the Land of Fire & Ice, a little chunk of volcanic rock at the very top of the world. On the way, I stopped over in Denmark, a bastion of decency & well-ordered fields situated between Germany & Scandinavia. I had been dying to visit this part of the world since I was a child, & it didn't disappoint me. Some of the highlights of my trip included witnessing the aurora (northern lights), getting stoned in the hippy town of Christiana, & having an odd encounter with Iceland's Hidden People. The fact my visit coincided with Europe's hottest summer in years only added to the spice.
