Temple of Jupiter, Diocletian's Palace
Eastern Europe picture - One of the most remarkable sights in the vast Palace of Diocletian is this temple, which features an atrium under a soaring 1,700 year old ceiling. Built to honor the Roman god Jupiter, in the early middle ages the temple became the Baptistry of St. John, whose statue looms over our heads. This is just one of the many structures within the Palace of Diocletian - a walled city within a city. Today it functions as a neighborhood of Split itself. Over 3,000 people live and work in it.
