Penang National Park - Pantai Mas

The name Pantai Mas is the local name for golden beach. It was a beautiful beach until the duck farm at the beach polluted it. The beach still looks golden with the golden sand if not for the enormous amount of rubbish. Being very close to civilization, mud and mangrove create a wilderness few people would like to go. The difficulty to access Pantai Mas by sea could be the reason why dwellers abandoned their homes here. Your story and photo really arouse my interest to visit Pantai Mas. I'm staying in Penang now and don't have a chance to visit Pantai Mas yet. In fact my mom originates from Pantai Acheh, and one of the commenter, Liew Lek Fong is my aunty in UK!:-) Yeap, I joined few of your trips and really enjoy very much. :) I will plan to visit this place during Hari Raya Holiday this year, after reading your article.

I was born and grew up in Pantai Acheh until I came to UK 30 years ago. Pantai Mas was our local beach and I had many happy picnics with friends there. We used to catch siput and used it in our fried mee-hoon there and then. Your pictures have sent me back to those happy days eventhough they have shown many changes, some are beyond my recgonition. There was no mongrove swamp but a long strech of golden sand beaches! The small stream of clear fresh water was our main source of refreshment for the day. When I next visit Home I must make a point to go over there.

Nice pics you folks have, surely looks like great hike/adventure. I was in Penang in 2001 but regrettably only in the city. I really love Malaysia & hope to go back there in the future to see more of it & its fine forest, beaches, & people (the main populace & those of the interior). Thanks!
