The Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta started in 1972 with only 13 balloons. It has grown to be the largest balloon event and the most photographed event in the world. It is held each year during the first week in October. The nine-day celebration is held at Balloon Fiesta Park and includes such events as mass ascensions, Balloon Glow, Special Shape Rodeo and Special Shape Glowdeo (R) in which some 90 shaped balloons participate.
