Swarnamukhi river originates from Nallamalai Ghats in chandragiri mandal and runs through chandragiri, Tirupati, renigunta, yerpedu and srikalahasti mandals in Chittoor district and runs in pellakur,naidupeta,ogili and vakadu mandals in nellore district and finally joins in the bay of Bengal inVakadu mandal.
The river flows in through the heart of Srikalahasti town and an ANICUT was constructed during 1954 to 1956 at a cost of RS.11.66 lakhs across Swarnamukhi river at srikalahasti with a right side head regulator for supplying water to 12 tanks in chittoor district and 22 tanks in Nellore district through chembedu channel for a length of 15.4 km having 2700 acres of registered ayacut in Chittoor district and 7500 acres in Nellore district, totally having irrigated ayacut of 10200 acres under this Anicut system.
