On the way back to Melbourne from the Puffing Billy, an almost mandatory stop is made for tea and antiques shopping at the pleasant mountain town of Sassafras. Apart from the chill and clean mountain air and the sound of screeching parrots, Sassafras is otherwise a tourist trap. Most home owners who have signs announcing antique sales appear to have cleaned out their attic, and seem to be offering several old books, photos etc. at ridiculously high prices.
