Erie's most outstanding attraction is Presque Isle State Park which means "almost an island" in French. The park is basically a large 3,200 acre sandbar, an arm-like peninsula on the south shore of Lake Erie. The park creates Presque Isle Bay, a wide & deep harbor between the peninsula and the city.
The 13-mile scenic loop road system within the park passes a series of fine swimming beaches, ponds & lagoons for fishing, woodland trails, and two historical lighthouses.
