Events in Ottawa picture - Canada was also at war in the Far East from 1941, serving in Hong Kong, Okinawa, Burma and India. 8,000 fought in the 14th Army in Burma: 500 died, most as aircrew. One was awarded the Military Cross, second only in importance to the VC. Canada's last VC was awarded to Lieut. Robert Hampton Gray, RCNVR,. for heroic action just before Japan surrendered.
