Here you are able to see some pictures of the ABBEY of "Terkameren/la Cambre" (Abdij van Terkameren(dutch) l'Abbaye de la Cambre(french), which is situated in the communal department of Elsene/Ixelles, of the Brussels area. Terkameren/La Cambre is in fact the forest which begins near the Abbey. I suppose at the time the Abbey was build it was totally surrounded by this forest, unfortunately today it is surrounded by buildings, and you have to cross the Avenue Louise to get to the Terkameren/La Cambre forest. The Abbey also lies next to the "Ponds of Elsene/Ixelles" (see my previous article: http://www.worldisround.com/articles/23877/index.html ) and is a really peaceful and nice place to get away from the noisy city traffic. The Abbey dates back to Medieval times and is a nice peace of gothic architecture. In addition the Abbey offers a little museum and a nice park surrounding it. It is fore sure worth visiting when you're in Brussels. Pictures taken on Sunday September 14th, 2003.
