<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> heading for Coober Pedy<br> Bicycling in Australia picture - My habit when cycling is to start not too late in the morning, and cycle the first forty kilometres without stopping. On other cycling tours, the distance covered would range from 35 or 50 kilometres, depending on the appearance of a nice caf&#233;. Then, I would drop into a good chair and order coffee and sweet cakes. This was impossible in Australia, with the never ending bush and desert along the road, lacking villages and vistas of appealing terraces. Many times I cycled for exactly 40 kilometres and then stopped for a rest, mostly strolling into the bush for a change of scenery. Then, away from the highway I used to stand still and hide myself a little bit, hoping to spot kangaroos or other animals. They never showed up, however.
