Unfortunately WORLD IS ROUND is shutting down. Unless the owner of WIR can find someone who is willing and capable of taking over the website. I have been planning to start my own website which would include similar photo albums on Iran. However, due to health reasons (Diabetes complications) I'm not able to foresee any such website any time soon. My intention with these albums was to make available to the world the good side of Iran through images and to try to make people from all around the world understand that Iran absolutely does not deserve to be considered a member of some "axis of evil". I also wanted to instill hope and inspiration for a brighter future for the young generations of Iranians. And images can do that! They can create a vision in the minds of people.

Thanks very much for all these beautiful pictures. I should say to one of our dears who left a message on this page which said Pahlavi tried to werstrnize Iran, I think from my point of view, this is really wrong, in fact Pahlavi family specially Shah was trying to MODERNIZE Iran not Westernize, these two are two different subjects. In Pahlavi time we had all our Iranian culture and all our Iranian Celebration and respected each other very much, and the other subject that I wanted to say, in those days as we had loads of betreyers such as HEZBE TOODEH, Cherik Fadi and ... who were trying to give whole Iran to Russia, couldn't get anything as Shah Loved his country and tried to protect his country from the hands of enemies. so he had to exile them or prisoned them. But unfortunatley in 1979 Traitors (Hezbeh TOODEH, CHRIK FADI, ... and Mojahedin) could manage to take over the country give it to hands of our old enemies like Britain and Russian and France.

Great pictures
Although i am just 23 and not at all Iranian. But i have to say this that ever sincei was a child i have always heard my mother and my grandmother admire the Empress Farah of Iran. Though i have English and Pakistani blood in me i would like to add that my grandmother always said that the Emporer and Empress were the rulers of the modern Muslim world. And that is so true. The Empress especially gave the country of Iran opulance and the glitter to the great Pahalvi dynasty. The question i have is why isnt she wearing her great diamonds when attending the great funtions of the royals in Europe? If HER MAJESTY see's this and i hope she does. She should realize that she is the one representing the Iranain royalty and she should be as glamourous as possible. And if i honestly ever see her my biggest dream is to go up to her and do a deep curtesy as her stature in life requires us to do so. P.s. I also happen to live in potomac, md your majesty

If you look up the word "dynasty" in the dictionary I think you'll find the answer to your question. TheFreeDictionary defines the meaning of "dynasty" the following way: "dy·nas·ty (dn-st) n. pl. dy·nas·ties 1. A succession of rulers from the same family or line. 2. A family or group that maintains power for several generations: a political dynasty controlling the state." ("Several" meaning more than one generation)http://www.thefreedictionary.com/dynasty According to this definition, the Pahlavi rule was indeed a dynasty.

I hope you're not suggesting that we should burn all the pictures from that time and not talk about that period of Iranian history as if it never happened... Your comments suggest that I hold the opinion that the Pahlavi monarchy was "so good" - Yet I haven't made any remarks here that would suggest that this would be the case. Dear Tania, The fact that you seem to see "westernized" for Iran and Iranians as something to strive for says it all! I do not want my Iran to be "westernized" - I want Iran to be Iran. Perhaps that was the essential problem with the Pahlavi rule - It wanted to turn Iran into a "Western" country. The Shah relied on getting his advise from Americans and Brits instead of from his own countrymen! One may admire the glitter and pomp, but to go back to that period? No thank you! Independence, self-reliance and national pride in the Iranian identity are the keys to a prosperous and progressive Iran

A nation without a history is a nation without roots. Although I am not a pro monarchy but looking at the pictures made me proud and brought tears to my eyes. In response to "Shahrokh": Dear "Shahrokh", you ask me how much I got from the Shah's wife to write these. I suppose what you mean are the pictures I have posted of the Pahlavi family. My answer to you is thatI have recieved just as much money from the Shah's wife as I got from the Wife of Nassereddin Shah for the Qajar photo album, and the wife of the mayor of Tehran for posting pictures of Tehran in the Tehran photo album, or the Wife of Ayatollah Khomeini for posting pictures of the Islamic revolution/Republic in the respective photo album. Seriously though, posting a picture of someone/something does not mean that you are pro or anti that which you posted a picture of. Nor does it mean that you necessarily recieved money for it! Whether you like it or not, the Pahlavi era is part of Iranian history.
