The sung vespers at the tiny Benedictine monastery and church in Rabanal had been such a wonderful experience that we decided to visit the great monastery at Samos which dates back to the 6th century. This monastery has a tradition of excellence in its continued use of Gregorian Chants in its services. Unfortunately, the monastery seemed more interested in catering to the commercial needs of the coach loads of tourists than it did to the spiritual needs of the pilgrim visitors.
