Only 100km to Santiago
Hiking in Spain picture - We had been looking forward to reaching this milestone on our journey from the Col du Somport to Santiago de Compostela. Imagine our disappointment when we discovered that it had been vandalised in this way. We had seen virtually no graffiti or vandalism in 760km of walking but no that we had reached the last 100km, there was graffiti everywhere. The late Pope John Paul II had decided that you only need to walk the last 100km to qualify as a "genuine" pilgrim and this stage of the Camino has become very popular with large groups of high school children and church groups who are seeking a less arduos means to receiving their "Compostela". We couldn't help but think that there was a link between these two things.
