The Ruined Village of Foncebadon
Hiking in Spain picture - Dating back to at least the 10th century, Foncebadon on the Roman road over the Irago Mountains, has seen more prosperous days. A few years ago it was totally abandoned and deserted but now the increased number of pilgrims walking to Santiago de Compostela has lead to the restoration of a couple of the old buildings and the openeing of a cafe and refugio to cater for the pilgrims. Summer population is now five but the village is deserted again during the winter months.
