Neighborhoods in Ottawa picture - This stone mansion on a densely treed lot, overlooking the Ottawa River and across the street from the Governor General's Rideau Hall estate, is where the Prime Minister hangs his hat. It was built in 1866 by J.M. Currier, as a wedding gift for his bride. The home was bought by the government in 1943 and beame the official residence for the PM in 1951, its first official occupant being Louis St Laurent. it is not open to the public.
