Neighborhoods in Ottawa picture - ... has had an interesting history. Built in 1914 for an Ottawa grocer, it was named after the ancestral home of its next residents. It is well known for its role as refuge during the Second World War for Crown Princess Juliana of the Netherlands and her daughters, one of whom was born in Ottawa. The house became the residence of the Leader of the Official Opposition in 1950, after concerned citizens raised money for this purpose. For twenty years it was maintained by donations, then in 1970 it was bought by the Government of Canda for one dollar.
