More than 100 countries have High Commissioners or Ambassadors in Ottawa. Including dependents, it is estimated that the diplomatic community numbers some 4,000 members. Some nations have bought a residence for their chief representative and his/her family, while others rent suitable houses for them. Not all ambassadors and high commissioners live in Rockcliffe: many are in the Sandy Hill and Island Park regions of the city, and a few live in Gatineau QC.
