This is the roadway (obviously designed in the era of carriages) leading from the Gate House to Rideau Hall itself. Within the park-like estate are Rideau Hall, other buildings, gardens, fountains, more than 3,000 trees, and a playing field. The estate is open to the public, and during warm months there are horticultural and garden tours, concerts by military bands, a Teddy Bear's Picnic in support of the Children's Hospital, and the Governor General's annual Garden Party on or near Canada Day (July 1).
