It is customary for visiting heads of state and other invited dignitaries to plant a tree in an area of the grounds set aside for this purpose. President Kennedy planted this tree at PM John Diefenbaker's invitation. Another nearby was planted by Mrs. Kennedy. All are identified by plaques.
