This mosque, also known as the Malay Mosque, was founded in 1808. The mosque is surrounded by rows of shophouses, a cemetery, and mid-19th Century town houses. The entire complex is historically and architecturally important as it reflects the earliest Muslim urban community in Penang which included Malays, Indian Muslims, Arabs and the Achehnese.
