Laalezar district of Old Tehran was the pleasure district of Tehran up until the revolution in 1979. Here one could choose between Iranian cabaret-style shows, bellydancing, and theaters of various sorts. It was a favorite hangout for Iranian mafia-style thugs - The so called "Laat", while frowned upon by the religious conservatives.
