Persian National Music Society Orchestra picture - Persian National Society Orchestra, conducted by the great Iranian composer and conductor Rouhollah Khaleghi, 1948. The late Rouhollah Khaleghi is most known for having comoposed the Iranian nationalist hymn "Ey Iran" ("Oh Iran") which mistakenly is believed by many Iranian exiles of the younger generations to be the former Iranian national anthem. This is not the case though, as the former Iranian anthem was "Salaam-e Shahanshahi" ("Imperial Salutation"). "Ey Iran" became a popular nationalist hymn used by Iranians in exile after the revolution in 1979. Almost all Iranians of all ages know this hymn and know the lyrics by heart, and it is sung at the beginning or end of most Iranian events. Today it is also commonly played in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
