Established on June 19th 1975, Erawan NP became Thailand's 12th national park. The park encompasses 549.976 sq km. The water flows from the limestone hills and thus forming many gours and hardened calcium carbonate on river edges and trees. Erawan waterfall drops a total of 1500 meters over seven tiers. The top of the fall resembles elephant's head and thus the name "Erawan" means "Elephant's Head". It is 65km from Kanchanaburi.
