Occidental Grand Flamenco/Playa Dorada

Our 2-week stay in Hotel Occidental Grand Flamenco (December 8 22, 2005) in Puerto Plata, on Playa Dorada, convinced us that all-inclusive was the way for us to go it was wonderful to be able to eat and drink anything you wanted any time you wanted, without dealing with money! And it definitely saves you money (eating and drinking - out every day gets expensive), unless youre one of those types who like to go off exploring every day and only sleeps at their hotel. Hi Shelley,
skirts are fine for women, for dinner. There are places to horseback ride there, but we don't know how close or where they were. Our travel agent offered one trip where horseback riding was one of the day's activities, but we didn't go on that trip, and never inquired about it further.

Question
I was wondering if ladies have to wear trousers at dinner or is a short skirt ok? Also is there horse riding near the hotel? Thanks

Answers:
Jeans seemed to be fine for dinner - they just don't want people to show up in shorts or swimwear. We wore nice plain t-shirts, and that was not a problem either (but I wouldn't wear t-shirts with logos for dinner).

My son always wear jeans... I would like to know if you saw people with jeans for dinner. I saw they ask for "long pant" and I am wondering myself... do you think it will be ok? Thank you in advance, you are so nice!

Chris, the a la carte restaurants are included in the all-inclusive plan, all you need is the reservation. It's not hard to get reservations for most of the restaurants, EXCEPT for the Asian one, which is by far the most popular. To get a table for that, get in the reservations line as it opens.

To get into town, you can catch the local bus (very cheap) from the main road, or take a taxi (very expensive).

We are going in March. Two questions: How do you get in to town? Did you have trouble making dinner reservations and if on an "all inclusive plan" do you have to pay at the ala carte restaurants?? We are really looking forward to our trip. Your pictures are great. Thanks
