This summer we decided to spend our summer holiday in Italy, after 10 years, more or less, dedicated to travell around the world. we were born and we live in Milano, in the North Italy...and we decided to visit the extreme Southern Region of our Country and of all Europe: the Sicily. 1.300 kilometers between Milan and Palermo, snow, rain, foggy days in Milan, sun, sea and food in Palermo. there are much more differences between Milan and Palermo than Milan and Paris or Milan and Berlin! big differences...! the stereotypes of Sicily...Mafia, Pasta, black dressed women, unemployement and poor people are famous also in North Italy...but are ALL stereotypes. Mafia exists but as a tourist i never saw it. Pasta...not only, men...not only...i like italian food, i like cooking...and Sicilian food is unbeliveble (fish, beef, pasta, rice, cakes, vegetables...all perfect!!!) black dressed women...yes, in the inner Sicily, in the mounts village there are some old, old, old ladies so dressed. not in the cities! and the Sicilian women are beautiful. unemployemente and poor people...we visited the Palermo, Trapani and Agrigento Provinces, that are the richest zones of Sicily...and ..were is the poerty? is a very beautiful land, the sea, mounts, vulcanos, islands, hills, lakes. good food, very polite people, the cost of the life is very low, and there are hundreds of archeological ruins, cities, temples, the world capital of the Baroque! temples built 2.500 years ago! Mid Age cities! ALL THE HUMAN HISTORY! sometimes we travelled for 28 hours by plane to go to see some small island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, or to visit some old ruins in the Peten Jungle! and we have a true paradise at 1 hour by plane from our home!
we arrived with our cars by boat in Palermo, then we visited the Lo Zingaro N.P. and the wonderfull village of Scopello, then we visited Segesta and Selinunte two Grecian ancient cities. then we went in Marsala and Trapani to visit the Phoenician ruins of Motia, and the wonderful coastline near Marsala, and the mid age city of Erice, and San Vito lo Capo; then we spent 10 days in the Egadi Islands, 3 small islands on the western cape of Sicily (Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo). then we went in Agrigento to visit the amazing temples, in Piazza Armerina to visit the Roman's Villa del Casale, the Baroque city of Caltagirone and the village and castle of Falconara Sicula. we spent the last days to visit Palermo.
P.S. sorry for my bad, bad english, but i never studied it at school (only french), and i learned something only during the holidays.
