*As we all know, the U.K. is a constitutional monarchy whereby the monarchy (the king, queen, & the entire royal family) is simply "ceremonial" while real power resides in the hands of the ministers.

I can't remember when real power was transferred to the ministers but back in the olden times, the King [or Queen] had absolute power & some of them really abused it.
