<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> the Durian<br> Sightseeing in Singapore picture - The Esplanade&#39;s main feature is a roof consisting of 2 huge, domed Mero latticed supporting structures, which glitter and create various graphic patterns depending on how the light falls. They call to mind an insect&#39;s compound eye. Triangular aluminium panels and windows have been fitted into the lattice work. They open and close according to their relative position to the sun. The new culture centre has earned the nickname &#34;Durian&#34;, as the shape of the Esplanade resembles two halves of the yellow-green Durian fruit from Southeast Asia and the roofs brings to mind its prickly outer skin. Because of its foul smell the Durian is known as the &#34;Asian stinking fruit&#34;; gourmets, however, appreciate it as a delicacy. </div></nolayer></noembed>
