I am pleased to share the photos taken on the recent expedition by the AsiaExplorers Travel Club to the ancient city of Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka.
Can anybody tell me what's the tallest ancient stone monument in the world? Easy, it's the pyramid at Giza. What about the second tallest? Still the pyramid at Giza. Now, what about the third tallest?
The answer is in Sri Lanka. There, you find the third tallest stone monument, the Jetavana Dagoba. It also happens to be the tallest brick monument in the world. Many people don't know this, but at 400ft, it towers over shorter, more famous monuments such as Angkor Wat, Taj Mahal, or even the Borobudur. If you pay a visit to Sri Lanka, you will be able to stand right at the bottom of this awesome man-made structure, built in the 3rd century AD.
