Thank you for your comments folks. The Snake Lily also has another name, "Stink Lily" but I thought the previous name was better. Note the little green ant on the top of it! it is a native ant to Australia.

These flowers are gorgeous... the Snake Lily looks like our Canna Lily... I have Stuart pea seeds from your country and they grow wonderfully here. G. Horn

Of the 3 times we have been to Cairns I never visited the Botanic Gardens. I have seen what I have missed and intend visiting it the next time we are there.
