Munich (Monaco in Italian), the capital of Bavaria, counts 1.3 million inhabitants and is situated in the south of Germany near Austria. It's an ideal city break (count 2 days to visit the city's highlights). On a third day, I definitely recommend visiting two of the most scenic 'fairytale' castles in Europe (Hogenschwangau and Neuschwanstein) that are a mere 45 minutes car drive away from Munich.
