After hearing about Hinchinbrook Island as one of the greatest wilderness walks in the world before I even arrived in Australia, I had been trying to find people foolish enough to join me in hiking across this empty, croc infested, bug ridden, swampy wilderness, complete with rodents of unusual size. After nearly a year, I had pretty much given up hope, especially as there is a 6 month waiting list to get a permit during the winter season, which is the advised time to go.
