While vacationing in Florence in 2005, I decided to get out of the city for a bit, taking a walk in the local countryside. I was enjoying the walk enough that I kept going until I reached Fiesole, a hilltop town overlooking Florence. As an unexpected bonus, I found out that Fiesole was an old Etruscan town and later an ancient Roman city. A park preserves some ruins, including a restored Roman theatre. A museum has a small but interesting collection of Etruscan and Roman artifacts.
