En route to Bologna for a conference, I spent four nights in Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance. Impressive basilicas, David and other sculptures by Michelangeo, the impact of the Medicis, and a wealth of artwork, in a setting far more intimate than Rome, from which I had come to Florence.
