My wife and I participated in an outing organised by the Photographic Group of the Selangor Branch of Malaysian Nature Society on 18 and 19 March, 2006. 27 of us drove from Kuala Lumpur to Sg. Lembing in Pahang in 6 vehicles. After lunch in Sg. Lembing, we drove a further 17 km over a very narrow and uneven trail strewn with rubbles to a river-side surrounded by tropical rainforest. The 17km journey took us more than 2 hours!

We camped beside the river and enjoyed ourselves in the cool and refreshing water. After dinner, we had a story telling session followed by a singing session. Some of us chose to appreciate the sky full of stars by lying on foam mats placed on the ground.

Early in the morning on the following day, everyone was up to get ready for the trek to the Rainbow Waterfall. We started at 07:45 hrs. After wading across the river, we followed one of its tributaries. We walked on the river bed that was full of boulders. At times we climbed up the river bank and walked in the forest.

1 hour and 15 minutes later, we reached the end of the tributary. A sheer cliff about 100m high blocked our way. But lo and behold! A most beaufiful rainbow was cast on the cliff wall. It being the dry season, there was not much water cascading down from the top of the cliff, and the waterfall did not even reach the pool at the foot of the cliff before the falling water became fine spray completely. The absence of the typical roar of waterfalls, however, was compensated by a beautiful rainbow.
