The backpacking trip was taken in the Mission Mountains Wilderness located in the Flathead National Forest in Montana. I have completed two different trips in the Missions and they are unbelieveable and dramatic. Though I have been at higher elevations, do not let the 8,000 - 10,000 foot peaks deceive you. This trip starts at Glacier Lake. The other trip started south at Crystal Lake (will eventually upload images from that trip).

The Mission Mountains cover approximately 75,000 acreas west of Hwy 83 and east of the Flathead Indian Reservation. Or between the Mission Valley and Swan River Valley. There is only a scant 65 miles of trails throughout the wilderness area last data I was able to read. So be prepared to do a lot of bushwacking and compass work. Trails are narrow and steep and full of lakes and glaciers. And yes - it is Griz country - so take the necessary precautions.

This trip we entered from Hwy 83 on FS 561 to Glacier Lake. Glacier Lake there is no camping due to over use.

Highly recommend the Mission Mountain Wilderness.
