It was exactly one hundred years ago today that a tremendous earthquake wiped out the beautiful City of San Francisco. At least that's what a number of newspapers headlined the morning after the quake. The SF Chronicle headlined SAN FRANCISCO IN RUINS. "Dire Holocaust Sweeps Doomed San Francisco" is what the Oakland Herald across the Bay shouted. Author Jack London wrote to his readers that "San Francisco is gone. Nothing remains of it but memories".
Of course, San Francisco wasn't wiped out. It was rebuilt
