Mardi Gras 2006 in Gretna Louisiana. What a fabulous experience!!!!! The City of Gretna, with a population of 17,208 (1990 Census), is located on the Mississippi River in the center of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area (population 1,304,000). Gretna is the Jefferson Parish (County) seat. The people are warm, friendly, fun loving, and intensely committed to their community.
