Tavira is located at the eastern part of the Algarve coast. There is only a short distance to the Spanish border. This picturesque town has elegant 18-century houses whitch border the river and castle ruins overlook at least 37 churches. Tavira's history includes settlement by Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors.
