Yes, you have to walk up that headland in the distance... Don't be confused by the lack of signage on the South to North route. Head to the end of the beach and the track is just to the left of middle (not near the edge of the headland, where we accidentally ended up). The National Parks has a lot to answer for in this regard. Signage is atrocious. The track you see halfway along the beach only goes to Garie YHA.
