Enchanted Mesa<br> Scenery in United States picture - Legend says that this mesa, a short distance away, was the home of the Acoma before they moved to Sky City. A tall ladder in the crevice seen on the right side of the mesa was the only access. Once, when everyone was away, lightning destroyed the ladder and stranded an old woman and a small child. The people believed the lightning was a sign and refused to replace the ladder or live on the mesa anymore. The woman and child jumped to their death and were buried where they fell.
