i was in vigan a few months ago and i witnessed a different kind of culture...their food, their craft, the way the people talk and smile to their visitors...that chic calesa which when you ride, you feel like being in a cradle..those cozy hotels (which are actually ancestral houses). i was amazed with the rows of old houses in crisologo st which for a hundred years, still intact. vigan has no night life, no disco houses, no beerhouses, but for a girl like me, i really appreciate how the past and the present administration of the Medinas able to create a metamorphosis of vigan - now a living museum of the past and present... and i invite everyone to come to vigan and feel the atmosphere of being enveloped in history and modernization. experience how the people here balance their tradition and culture with the influx of modern technology. COME, VISIT AND EAT THE EMPANADA, THE OKOY, THE LONGGANIZA, THE BAGNET, THE SINANGLAO, MIKI, PATUPAT AND A LOT MORE MOUTH WATERING DELICACIES!

Although I was not born in Vigan, I was raised in this beautiful place where I studied and earned a college degree in the now defunct Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion. There was not a day before wherein I did not munch the popular empanada. But that was decades ago. I have not seen this place for 30 years. Since I left Vigan, I have never tasted empanada. My gustatory nerve want me to go back and sink my teeth in it. But when I saw that lola making this stuff,(see picture in "more empanada")no amount of appetizers would give me encouragement to ever taste this stuff again. No, not for now. My favorite Darna (Rosa del Rosario)should come to my rescue. Heeeelp, Darna! She is here!
