Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most beautiful spots in Croatia and should not be missed on any trip to Croatia, or even Europe for that matter. Buses going between Zagreb and Split or Zadar stop at Plitvice each day. There are around 12 buses per day and they are fairly inexpensive. There are hotels in the park, and 5 minutes from the main entrance is a small neighborhood where you can rent rooms.
