Dubrovnik is perhaps the most touristed city in Croatia, and with good reason. The old walled city is beautiful and very well-preserved. A walk around the city walls is not to be missed as the views are spectacular. You can stay in the old city, which is only a very small area of Dubrovnik, or search for a less expensive room in one of the nearby neighborhoods. Just wandering the streets of the city is a pleasure and staying in a room in the house of a local is a great experience and very easy to do. Croatians are in general incredibly welcoming and helpful people. We had a great experience at our guesthouse on the hill. We had a great experience in Dubrovnik overall. If you go to Croatia you absolutely must visit Dubrovnik. And they have and international airport so you can easily get from here to other main cities in Europe. The best time to visit is the spring or fall as the weather is nice but there aren't too many tourists and you don't have to pay high season prices.
