<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> &#34;Hanoi Opera House&#34; (1911)<br> Sightseeing in Hanoi picture - in the French quarter SE of Hoan Kiem Lake. This incredible, Neo-Baroque building, built by the French in 1911, was modeled on Paris&#39; famed Palais Garnier. (Apparently, the interior is equally stunning.) The Opera House was refurbished in the late 1990s at a whopping cost of US&#36;20 million. The 900-seat opera house plays host to visiting foreign performances, as well as Vietnamese symphonies that play regularly. Historic note - It was here, on August 16, 1945, that the Viet Minh announced from the main balcony that they had taken over the city. </div></nolayer></noembed>
