We went to the top of a nearby hill overlooking the city, to Crimea War Park. An historic battle was waged here during that war in 1853. Imperial Russia fought a losing war against the combined forces of England, France, Turkey and the Ottoman Empire. The seige of Sebastopol by those overwhelming forces lasted for almost a year before the city finally capitulated. Crimean people are justly proud of this park, and the events that happened here. We would see scenes of that battle in a magnificent panorama the next day.
