Vietnam has become one of the world's top rice producers and officially became a rice-exporting country in 1989. Here’s some interesting demographics related to agriculture: 79% of Vietnam’s population is rural, agriculture employs 71% of the labor force, 70% of all households earn their livelihood from agricultural production, and women make up 53% of the farming population (the war & economic migration has created a shortage of males in the population).
