Sightseeing in Peru picture - The terraces of Ollantaytambo. In 1536, after his defeat at Sacsayhuaman, Manco Inca retreated to here and held these terraces against the Conquistadors. A pursuing force under Hernando Pizarro was attacked and defeated by the Incas here, but Manco decided to withdraw further into the jungle. He destroyed much of the town, burnt all the stores and withdrew along the Inca trail towards Macchu Picchu, destroying the trail as he went. In those days it was only a one day walk to Macchu Picchu - today it takes four.
