We took a 4 day get away from the excessive heat and humidity of the Wash DC 'burbs. Our trip started with a drive through part of Virginia's Skyline Drive where we saw deer in several places and many types of wildflowers along the way. As usual in summer, Skyline Drive views were very hazy. We are convinced that this drive is a part of the Smokey Mountains. :-) Two overnights in Beckley, WVA gave us ample time to view several areas of the New River Gorge including the NEW and OLD New River Bridges. In this area we again saw abundant wildflowers as well as deer AND wild turkeys. The river was low; consequently the Grist Mill and Sandstone Falls were not as picturesque as in other times. On our return home, we stopped over in Charlottesville, VA to see Monticello. It was a great trip!
