A weekend trip to Xi’an, Shanxi province of China. Arrived Xi’an at 10.30pm on Thursday. Stay at Royal Garden Hotel (under the group of Le Meridien) in down town of Xi’an at RMB378 (USD 47) per nite. Our plan changed after the 1st half of the trip. There are a lot of places recommended by some of the travel books or magazines, but it’s disappointed though.

Initial plan (common plan by the travel agencies or books):

1st day – D2: East Route : Li Mountain National Park, Hua Qing Pool, Terra-Cotta & Qin Tomb.

2nd day – D3: West Route : Quan Lin, Fa Men Shi’s Xuan Yang Musuem.

3rd day – D1 : Down Town Route : Bei Lin, Da Yan Pagoda, Zhong Gu Lou, and Xi’an Gate

Plan changed after we found nothing special except Terra-cotta, beside that it is also due to the hot weather.

13 Jul – Arrived at around 10.30pm and straight away heading to hotel to have a good rest for the exploring on the next day.

14 Jul - We went for the East Route (Taxi cost RMB150 for the whole day of East Route).

i. Li Shan (Li Mountain) - – the Li Shan National Park (Entrance fees : RMB45 per pax) - There is a “Daoism temple” to visit - Li Shan (we didn’t go up due to we found nothing special and the weather was so hot till I believe it was at least 38 degree celcius).

ii. Hua Qing Chi (Hua Qing Pool) (Entrance fees : RMB70 per pax) - The bathing pool of Yang Gui Fei ( Gui Fei = highest-ranking imperial concubine, the concubine after empress). - Xi’an’s incident during before the culture revolution while Sun Zhong San & Chiang Kai Shek (The founder of Taiwan).

iii. Terra-Cotta (Museum of Qin Shi Huang’s Mausoleum) (Entrance fees : RMB 90 per pax) - There are 3 pits open for visit. Heard that 10yrs back, also 3pits were open for visit. Seems that it really consume a lot of times for these jobs.

iv. Qin Tomb (Entrance fees : RMB 40 per pax) - Nothing much to see, as the archaeologies dare not touch it at all, as the excavation of the tomb is not easy and might be very dangerous.

v. Zhong & Gu Lou (Bell & Drum Tower) - Entrance fees: RMB 30 per pax - A walking distance from Hotel to Zhong Lou - A night walk from Zhong Lou to Gu Lou - Muslim town, to have nice muslim food, nearby Gu Lou

15 Jul – HuaShan (Hua Mountain) & Bei Lin

For HuaShan (Hua Mountain) Entrance fees : RMB100 per pax Insurance : RMB5 per pax Bus to the cable car station : RMB 20 per pax Cable car : RMB 110 per pax - It took around 2 hours to reach HuaShan from Xi’an. The taxi cost RMB400 per round trip. - We walked to Bei Lin from our hotel. The entrance fees is RMB 30 per pax)

For Bei Lin Entrance fees : RMB30 - A walking distance (20mins) from hotel.

16 Jul – Da Yan Pagoda & Han Yang Lin i. Da Yan Pagoda ( Entrance fees : RMB25 per pax) - Only the pagoda to watch, we didn’t go up there, as again we don’t see any special. - A huge square at the North Gate of Da Yan Pagoda. Very nice water fountain especially during summer to chill out.

ii. Han Yang Lin (Entrance fees : RMB80) - Is about the same like Terra-cotta, but the relics were from Han Dynasty. - The building structure is more comfortable for tourist compare to Terra-cotta.

iii. Heading to airport for 19.25 flight back to Guangzhou.

From the plans above, we didn’t really spend one full day for the route in down town area. Therefore, don’t waste the time. Do not have to follow what the books recommended.

Here is the driver who I would like to recommend: During the 1st and 2nd day trip we are using this lady driver who is Miss Jiang, her cellphone number : +86 13891867712. She charged us RMB150 for East Route (to Terracotta), and second day to HuShan at RMB400 (breakfast provided by her). But her car is abit small as she is driving for WW Jetta.

3rd day, we are using this driver to airport, he is Mr. Ying Huan Sheng, cell phone : +86 13909241519. This car is more comfortable, bigger size, WW Santana 3000 series. He charged RMB100 to airport (usually the cheapest is RMB100). We paid him an extra of RMB20 to bring us to a site (HanYang Ling) before to airport

Never get the taxi from airport, as they will charge extremely expensive and is hard to bargain. They usually charge almost double the price of the taxi u can get from town. Anyway, all drivers in town are very nice, friendly and enthusiasm.
