Terra-cotta

The terracotta warriors and horses of the Qin dynasty is a myth left by history. They have come up again out of the earth, under which they had remained buried and unknown for more than 2,200 years. The founder of the terracotta is a farmer in early spring of 1974 while digging a well. So far, 3 pits were discovered, with a total of 20,000 square meters. The pits containing the terracotta pieces are about 1.5km east of Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s mausoleum. From the terracotta warriors and horses, we can feel the grandeur and power of the army of the ancient empire in China. The pits shown about the power of Qin military, and provide an incredible information such as the ranks on the battlefield, the use of weapons, also the overall tactics in ancient Chinese warfare.

Pit No.1, the largest among the three, it is 230meters from east to west and 62 meters from north to south. It is about 14,200 square meters, and it has at least more than 6,000 terracotta warriors and horses and 40 wooden chariots. Pit No.2, it is 20 meters northeast from pit no.1, the area is about 6,000 square meters. Found 1,400 terracotta pieces and 89 wooden chariots. Pit No.3 is the smallest with the area of 500 square meters. It is 25 meters to northwest of Pit no.1, and 120 meters to the east of Pit no.2. All the pits are about 8 meters deep. The soldiers are about 1.8 meters to 2 meters tall. The horses are usually 2 meters long and 1.7 meters tall, same dimension as the real life. There is one thing I wanna emphasize is each terracotta piece has an individual work of art, cause every warrior has a different expression.
